Sakamoto’s score blended traditional Chinese music with his unique electronic sound, creating a score that was both evocative and memorable.
Sakamoto’s success as a composer continued throughout the 1990s and 2000s. He composed scores for films such as “Little Buddha,” “Wild Palms,” and “The Revenant,” among others. He also continued to release solo albums and collaborate with other musicians, including David Sylvian, David Byrne, and Iggy Pop.
In 2014, Ryuichi was diagnosed with throat cancer, and he underwent treatment while continuing to work on music. Despite his health struggles, he remained active in the music world, releasing his 15th solo album in 2023.
