The entertainment industry lost a talented and versatile actress on Tuesday, May 24, 2023, when Vaibhavi Upadhyaya passed away in a car accident. She was traveling with her fiance in Himachal Pradesh when their car lost control at a steep turn. She was best known for her role as Jasmine, Rosesh’s love interest, in the popular TV comedy show Sarabhai vs Sarabhai.

A Passionate Performer

Vaibhavi Upadhyaya was born and brought up in Mumbai. She had a passion for acting since childhood and participated in various theatre and cultural activities in school and college. She graduated from Mithibai College with a degree in Mass Media and pursued her dream of becoming an actor.

She started her career with small roles in TV shows like Kya Qasoor Hai Amla Ka and web series like Please Find Attached. She got her big break when she was cast as Jasmine in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai: Take 2, the sequel to the cult classic sitcom. She impressed viewers and critics alike with her comic timing and chemistry with Rajesh Kumar, who played Rosesh.

She also ventured into films and worked alongside Deepika Padukone in Chhapaak (2020), a biopic on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. She played the role of one of Laxmi’s friends who supported her throughout her ordeal. She also acted in Timir (2023), a Gujarati thriller film directed by Rahul Bhole.

A Loving Person

Vaibhavi Upadhyaya was not only a talented actor but also a loving person who touched many lives with her warmth and kindness. She was engaged to her long-time boyfriend Ankit Sharma, who is a cinematographer. They were planning to get married soon and had gone on a trip to Himachal Pradesh to celebrate their anniversary.

She was also close to her co-stars and friends from the industry, who expressed their shock and grief at her sudden demise. Rupali Ganguly, who played Monisha in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, remembering Vaibhavi as a “beautiful soul”. She wrote:-

“I can’t believe you are gone Vaibhavi… You were such a beautiful soul… Always smiling always positive… You will be missed my friend… RIP.”

JD Majethia, the producer and actor of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, also mourned her loss and informed that her family will bring her to Mumbai for the last rites. He wrote on Twitter:-

“Life is so unpredictable. A very fine actress, dear friend Vaibhavi Upadhyay popularly known as“ jasmine “of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai passed away. She met with an accident in the north. The family will bring her to Mumbai tomorrow morning around 11 am for last rites . RIP Vaibhavi.”

Deven Bhojani, who played Dushyant in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, shared her photo on Instagram and wrote, “Shocking! RIP Vaibhavi”
