Dolph Lundgren’s Secret Cancer Battle: How He Survived Against All Odds?

Dolph Lundgren is a name that many movie fans will recognize. He is the Swedish actor who played the iconic role of Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, the ruthless Soviet boxer who killed Apollo Creed in the ring. He also starred in other action films such as The Expendables, Universal Soldier, and Aquaman.
But what many people may not know is that Lundgren has been fighting a private battle with cancer for the past eight years. He recently opened up about his diagnosis and treatment in an interview with Graham Bensinger on his show In Depth.
In this article, we will explore how Lundgren discovered his cancer, how he coped with the news, and how he managed to overcome the odds and survive.
How Lundgren Discovered His Cancer?
Lundgren said that he first found out he had cancer in 2015 when doctors detected a tumor in his kidney during a routine check-up. He said he was shocked by the news, but he decided to keep it a secret from the public and his family.
He said he underwent surgery to remove the tumor and then had regular scans to monitor his condition. For five years, everything seemed fine, until 2020, when another MRI revealed that more tumors had appeared around his kidney.
He had another surgery to remove six of them, but then he faced a bigger challenge: one of the tumors had grown too large to be removed, and it was pressing against his spine. His doctors told him that he needed systemic therapy, which involves taking drugs that target cancer cells throughout the body.
How Lundgren Coped With The News?
Lundgren said that he started taking the drugs, but they had severe side effects. He said he suffered from diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue, and depression. He said he felt like he was dying.
He also said that his doctors gave him a grim prognosis: they told him that he had only two or three years left to live, but they sounded like they thought it was less. He said he was not bitter about his fate, but he felt sad for his loved ones: his two daughters, Ida and Greta, and his fiancée, Emma Krokdal.

He said he decided to get a second opinion from another oncologist, Dr. Alexandra Drakaki, who gave him a ray of hope. She said that she found a mutation in one of his tumors that was common in lung cancer and that there were treatments available for it.
She said she got permission to use a lung cancer drug for Lundgren’s case, and that it worked wonders. She said that within three months, his tumors started shrinking by 20 to 30 percent, and by 2022, they had shrunk by about 90 percent.
How Lundgren Survived Against All Odds?
Lundgren said that he was amazed by the results of his treatment and that he felt like he had been given a second chance at life. He said he was grateful to Dr. Drakaki for saving him, and to his family and friends for supporting him.
He said he was also more appreciative of life itself, and that he wanted to make the most of it. He said he continued to work on his film projects, such as Expendables 4 and Aquaman 2, but he also spent more time with his loved ones.
He said he was sharing his story publicly now to raise awareness about cancer and to inspire others who may be going through similar situations.
