Ayushmann Khurrana Finds His Real-Life ‘Dreamgirl’: Man Who Posed as His Girlfriend for Exam
Ayushmann Khurrana is known for his versatile and unconventional roles in Bollywood. The actor has played a sperm donor, a blind pianist, a gay lover, a bald man, and a cross-dresser in his films. His latest film, Dream Girl 2, is a sequel to the 2019 hit comedy, where he played a man who impersonates a woman’s voice on a hotline service.
The film, which also stars Ananya Panday, Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Asrani, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh and Seema Pahwa, released on December 25, 2023, and received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film has also been a box office success, earning over Rs. 200 crore worldwide.
However, what Ayushmann did not expect was that his film would inspire a real-life incident that would go viral on social media. According to a report by The Indian Express, a man named Jaspreet Singh was caught by the police for dressing up as his girlfriend, Paramjeet Kaur, and writing an exam on her behalf in Punjab’s Faridkot district. The report stated that Jaspreet had shaved his beard, applied makeup, and wore a salwar kameez to look like Paramjeet. He also had fake identity cards with his photo and Paramjeet’s name on them.
The police nabbed Jaspreet after they received a tip-off from an anonymous caller. They found him sitting in the examination hall, attempting to write the test for the post of a clerk in the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board (PSSSB). He was arrested and booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
When this bizarre news reached Ayushmann, he took to his Instagram stories and reacted to it with a single word: ‘Dreamgirl’. He also shared a screenshot of the news article and tagged the director of the film, Raaj Shaandilyaa, and the producer, Ekta Kapoor. He wrote, “This is insane. @raajshaandilyaa @ektarkapoor”.
Ayushmann’s reaction was met with amusement and disbelief by his fans and followers. Many of them commented on his post, saying that he should meet Jaspreet and give him some tips on how to cross-dress better. Some of them also suggested that Jaspreet should be cast in the next installment of the Dream Girl franchise.
Ayushmann, who has been in the industry for over a decade, has carved a niche for himself as an actor who can pull off any role with ease and conviction. He has won several awards and accolades for his performances, including the National Film Award, the Filmfare Award, and the Padma Shri. He is also a singer, writer, and poet, who has released several songs and books.
