Plot and Ending Explained

Neru follows the story of Sara, a blind sculptor who is trying to seek justice after she suffered a major trauma. She was attacked by a group of men who tried to rape her, but she managed to escape by stabbing one of them with a knife. However, she was arrested by the police for attempted murder, as the man she stabbed was the son of a powerful politician. Sara’s case is taken up by Suresh Gopi, a lawyer who is known for his honesty and integrity. He believes that Sara is innocent and tries to prove her self-defense in the court. However, he faces many hurdles and challenges from the prosecution, the police, the media, and the political influence. He also has to deal with his own personal issues, such as his strained relationship with his wife and his daughter’s illness.

The film takes many twists and turns as Suresh tries to unravel the truth behind Sara’s case. He discovers that Sara was not the only victim of the gang, and that there were other women who were raped and killed by them. He also finds out that the politician’s son was not the one who was stabbed by Sara, but his friend who was impersonating him. He also learns that Sara’s sister was also involved in the conspiracy, and that she was the one who tipped off the gang about Sara’s location. Suresh exposes all these facts in the court, and proves Sara’s innocence. He also manages to get the gang arrested and punished for their crimes. The film ends with Sara regaining her eyesight after a successful surgery, and thanking Suresh for saving her life.

Controversy and Plagiarism Allegations

Before the film was released, Neru was involved in a controversy with plagiarism allegations. An individual named Rajesh Nair claimed that the story of the film was based on his novel titled ‘Oru Neenda Rathriyude Ormakkayi’, which was published in 2017. He filed a case in the Ernakulam District Court, seeking a stay on the release of the film. He also demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore from the makers of the film. He alleged that the film had copied the plot, the characters, and the scenes from his novel, without his permission or credit.

However, the makers of the film denied the allegations, and stated that the film was an original work, and that they had not read or heard of the novel. They also submitted the script of the film, which was registered with the Film Writers Association in 2019, much before the novel was published. The court dismissed the case, and allowed the release of the film, after finding no merit in the plagiarism allegations.
