Manoj Gaur (Former CMD Jaypee Infratech) Age, Wife, Children, Family, Biography

Manoj Gaur’s name has long been linked with India’s infrastructure dreams. For decades, he stood at the centre of the Jaypee Group, a business empire built by his father, Jaiprakash Gaur. From cement plants to expressways, from hydro power projects to Formula One racing tracks, Manoj was seen as one of the men who shaped modern India’s skyline. His story is not just about business growth, but also about ambition, family legacy, and the risks of expanding too fast.
In recent years, however, his name has appeared in headlines for very different reasons. On 13 November 2025, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Manoj in connection with a massive money laundering case. The case involves alleged diversion of funds worth ₹14,599 crore, collected from thousands of homebuyers who were promised homes in Jaypee Infratech projects. Instead of being used for construction, investigators claim that the money was moved through a web of trusts and companies, leaving projects unfinished and buyers cheated
Early Life and Background
Manoj was born in 1964 in New Delhi, India. He grew up in a family where business was part of everyday life. His father, Jaiprakash Gaur, had already started laying the foundation of what would later become the Jaypee Group. Jaiprakash began as a civil contractor in the late 1950s and formally established Jaiprakash Associates in 1979. His current age is 61 years old in 2025.
Growing up in such an environment, Manoj was exposed to the challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurship from a young age. His family valued hard work, discipline, and education. These values shaped his personality and prepared him for the responsibilities he would later take on.
Family Lineage and Background
Manoj’s father, Jaiprakash Gaur, is one of India’s well-known businessmen. He started his career as a civil contractor and later founded the Jaypee Group in 1979. From small beginnings, Jaiprakash built the group into a giant enterprise with interests in cement, power, real estate, and infrastructure. His journey inspired Manoj and gave him a strong foundation to step into the business world.
Manoj comes from a large family. His brothers, Sameer Gaur and Sunny Gaur, are also entrepreneurs and have been actively involved in different parts of the Jaypee Group. Marriage and Personal Life
Manoj is married to Urvashi Gaur. The couple has a son, Manu Bhaskar Gaur, who is also an entrepreneur. Manu has tried to build his own ventures, continuing the family’s tradition of business involvement.
Unlike Manoj, his wife and son have mostly stayed away from the limelight. They have maintained a private life, though their names occasionally appear in media reports linked to the Jaypee Group. Manoj’s family has often been described as supportive, standing by him during both his successes and controversies.
Physical Features
He is about 5 feet 8 inches tall (173 cm). His light brown eyes and light brown hair give him a distinct appearance. Over the years, he has often been seen in formal suits at public events, reflecting his corporate identity.
For much of his career, Manoj carried the image of a confident businessman. He was seen as approachable yet authoritative. His physical presence matched his role as a leader of one of India’s largest business groups. However, in recent years, his public appearances have become rare, especially after the controversies surrounding Jaypee Infratech.

Education Journey
Manoj studied at Government Boys High School No. 1, Sarojini Nagar, Delhi. His early education gave him a strong foundation in academics. Teachers and classmates remember him as disciplined and focused, qualities that later helped him in his professional life.
After school, Manoj went on to pursue engineering at one of India’s most respected institutions — the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. He completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (Honors). This degree was not just a qualification; it was a stepping stone into the world of infrastructure and construction.
Rise in Jaypee Group Management
After completing his engineering degree, Manoj joined his father’s company. His first posting was at the Naubasta cement plant in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, where he worked as a project coordinator. At that time, his salary was ₹2,750 per month — a modest beginning for someone who would later manage projects worth thousands of crores.
Manoj played a key role in the company’s affairs from 1983, when Jaypee’s first cement plant was being built. His involvement in the early stages of the group’s expansion gave him valuable experience in handling large projects.
In the 1990s, Manoj was given responsibility for a newly established hydro power project. This marked the group’s entry into the power sector, and Manoj’s leadership was crucial in managing the complexities of such projects. By 2006, Manoj had become the Executive Chairperson of Jaiprakash Associates.

Major Career Milestones
One of Manoj’s biggest achievements was the Yamuna Expressway, a 165-km highway connecting Greater Noida with Agra. This project was seen as a landmark in India’s infrastructure development. It reduced travel time between Delhi and Agra and became a symbol of Jaypee Group’s ambition.
Another milestone was the Buddh International Circuit, India’s first Formula One racing track. Opened in 2011, it put India on the global motorsport map. Though the F1 races did not continue for long, the project showcased Manoj’s vision for world-class infrastructure.
Jaypee Infratech and Real Estate Ventures
Jaypee Infratech was created as the real estate arm of the Jaypee Group. It was meant to deliver large housing projects, townships, and infrastructure developments. The company quickly became popular among middle-class and upper-middle-class buyers who wanted modern homes in Noida and Greater Noida.
Some of the most well-known projects included Jaypee Wishtown and Jaypee Greens. These projects promised world-class facilities, landscaped gardens, golf courses, and modern apartments. Buyers were attracted by the group’s reputation and the scale of the developments.

Challenges and Delays in Projects
From around 2017 onwards, Jaypee Infratech began facing serious problems. Many housing projects were delayed, leaving buyers frustrated. Families who had paid for homes waited for years without possession.
As delays grew, buyers started filing complaints. Multiple FIRs were registered by the Economic Offences Wings (EOW) of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Police. These complaints accused the company and its promoters of cheating, criminal conspiracy, and breach of trust.
The situation became so tense that Manoj once addressed nearly 1,000 angry homebuyers at the company’s Noida office. He promised to find solutions, but the delays continued. This incident showed the scale of public anger and the pressure on the company.
Controversies and Legal Troubles
The FIRs filed in 2017 triggered deeper investigations. Authorities began looking into how funds collected from homebuyers were being used. Allegations suggested that money meant for construction was being diverted elsewhere.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) stepped in to investigate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED suspected that funds were being moved through a complex network of trusts and companies linked to the Jaypee Group.
These controversies damaged Manoj Gaur’s public image. From being seen as a visionary entrepreneur, he was now viewed as someone facing serious allegations of financial misconduct.
The Money Laundering Case (2025)
The ED alleges that Manoj and his companies collected about ₹14,599 crore from homebuyers for residential projects. Instead of using the money for construction, large portions were diverted to other entities.
Funds were allegedly transferred to Jaypee Sewa Sansthan (JSS), Jaypee Healthcare Ltd. (JHL), and Jaypee Sports International Ltd. (JSIL). Manoj Gaur, as the Managing Trustee of JSS, is accused of receiving a significant share of the diverted funds.
This diversion left thousands of families without homes. Many had invested their life savings, expecting timely delivery. The case is one of the largest real estate frauds in India, highlighting the risks faced by buyers in big projects.
ED Investigations and Arrest
On 23 May 2025, the ED carried out searches at 15 locations linked to Jaypee Infratech, Jaiprakash Associates, and related entities. They seized ₹1.7 crore in cash, property documents, and digital records.
On 13 November 2025, Manoj was arrested under Section 19 of PMLA, 2002. The next day, a Delhi court sent him to five days of ED custody for further questioning.
