Robin Simcox began his career as a research fellow at the Centre for Social Cohesion (CSC), a conservative think tank that focused on issues such as multiculturalism, immigration, and Islamism. He wrote a report on the foreign donors of UK universities, exposing their links to extremist groups and regimes. He later joined the Henry Jackson Society, another conservative think tank, when the CSC merged with it in 2011. In 2021, Robin Simcox was appointed as the interim Commissioner for Countering Extremism by the Home Secretary Priti Patel, replacing Sara Khan. He was officially appointed as the substantive Commissioner for Countering Extremism in July 2022, for a three-year term.
