Oscar-Winner MM Keeravaani Returns to Malayalam Cinema with Magician Movie

MM Keeravaani, the music composer who won an Oscar for his song Naatu Naatu from the epic film RRR, is making a comeback to the Malayalam film industry after a long gap of 27 years. He has signed a new movie titled Magician, directed by debutant Sreejith Nair and starring Jayasurya in the lead role. Keeravaani was in Thiruvananthapuram recently to attend the film’s launch event and expressed his excitement to work in Malayalam cinema again.

Keeravaani’s previous Malayalam films

Keeravaani is not a stranger to the Malayalam audience. He has composed music for four Malayalam films in the past, starting with Neelagiri (1991), starring Mammootty and Madhubala. He followed it up with another Mammootty film, Sooryamanasam (1992), which had some memorable songs like Oru Raathri Koodi and Thaane Poovitta Moham. His third Malayalam film was Devaragam (1996), featuring Arvind Swamy and Sridevi. The songs of this film, such as Shishirakaala, Shashikala, and Yayayaa Yadava, are still popular among music lovers. His last Malayalam film was also in 1996, titled Aayiram Naavulla Ananthan, starring Mammootty, Gauthami, and Madhoo.

Keeravaani’s Oscar-winning song

Keeravaani achieved global fame when he won an Oscar for his song Naatu Naatu from the magnum opus RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli. The song, sung by Anirudh Ravichander and Shreya Ghoshal, was a tribute to the freedom fighters of India and their struggle against British rule. The song also won a Golden Globe award and a Filmfare award for Keeravaani. RRR was a blockbuster film that starred Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt, and Ajay Devgn in the lead roles.

Keeravaani’s upcoming Malayalam film

Keeravaani’s new Malayalam film, Magician, is a fantasy thriller that revolves around a magician who uses his skills to solve crimes. The film is produced by Vijay Babu under his banner Friday Film House. The film also stars Aju Varghese, Saiju Kurup, Harisree Ashokan, and Dharmajan Bolgatty in supporting roles. Keeravaani said that he was impressed by the script and the director’s vision and agreed to work on the film. He also said that he was happy to be back in Kerala and sang some of his favorite Malayalam songs by MS Baburaj at the launch event.
