Kangana Ranaut Wins Best Actress Award for Thalaivii at Osaka Tamil International Film Festival

Kangana Ranaut, one of the most versatile and talented actors in Bollywood, has added another feather to her cap by winning the Best Actress Award for her film Thalaivii at the Osaka Tamil International Film Festival in Japan. Thalaivii is a biographical drama film based on the life of actor-turned-politician Jayalalithaa, who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for six terms. The film showcases her journey from being a superstar of Tamil cinema to a powerful political leader who faced many challenges and controversies.
Thalaivii: A tribute to Jayalalithaa
Thalaivii, directed by AL Vijay and written by KV Vijayendra Prasad, is a tribute to Jayalalithaa, who was fondly called Amma (mother) by her followers. The film portrays her relationship with the legendary actor and politician MG Ramachandran (MGR), played by Arvind Swami, who mentored and supported her in her film and political career. The film also depicts her struggle to establish herself as a woman leader in a male-dominated arena, and how she overcame the obstacles and conspiracies against her.

Kangana Ranaut, who has won four National Film Awards and several other accolades for her performances in films like Queen, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, and Panga, has once again proved her mettle as an actor by portraying Jayalalithaa with utmost conviction and authenticity. She underwent a physical transformation by gaining 20 kilograms in six months to play the older version of Jayalalithaa. She also learned Bharatanatyam and Tamil language to get into the skin of the character.
