Jacklyn Zeman, the acclaimed actor who brought to life the iconic role of nurse Bobbie Spencer on the hit soap opera “General Hospital” for over four decades, has died at the age of 70. Zeman succumbed to cancer, her family confirmed on Wednesday.
Zeman’s passing was first revealed by the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, on Twitter. He wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of our beloved Jackie Zeman’s passing. She was a true professional and a bright light who brought so much positive energy to her work, just like her character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer.”
A cherished member of the ‘General Hospital’ family
Zeman joined “General Hospital” in 1977 as Barbara Jean Spencer, also known as Bobbie, the younger sister of Luke Spencer (played by Anthony Geary). She quickly rose to fame and popularity as one of the most recognizable and beloved actors on daytime television, earning four Daytime Emmy nominations for her performance.
Bobbie was a fascinating and captivating character who had a dark past as a teenage prostitute and a single mother who gave up her baby for adoption. She later changed her life and became a nurse at General Hospital, where she worked for many years. She also had several love affairs and marriages, most notably with Dr. Tony Jones (played by Brad Maule), with whom she adopted a daughter named BJ.
Zeman played Bobbie with a blend of spunk, sass, sweetness and strength, making her a favorite among fans and a role model for many women. She also had a close relationship with her on-screen brother Geary, whom she regarded as family off-screen as well.

Zeman was born in New Jersey on March 6, 1953. She studied ballet as a child and attended New York University to study dance. She later switched to acting and pursued her career in Hollywood.
Zeman was married twice and had two daughters, Cassidy and Lacey. She was dedicated to her family and often shared photos of them on her Instagram account. She also enjoyed traveling, gardening and cooking.
Zeman is survived by her two daughters, her brother Richard Zeman Jr., her sister-in-law Susan Zeman and several nieces and nephews.
